New Era for flagship hospital as VetPartners welcomes first Channel Islands practice

NEW Era Veterinary Hospital in Jersey has become the first Channel Islands practice to join VetPartners.

The flagship practice is the only RCVS-accredited small animal veterinary hospital on the Channel Islands and provides 24-hour care for pets across Jersey, as well as having thriving equine and farm animal departments.

New Era joins a growing number of practices that are part of VetPartners, which owns 128 of the UK’s most respected and trusted small animal, mixed, equine and farm practices, with 5,369 employees working across more than 450 sites and from its headquarters in York. Last month, VetPartners signalled its intent to expand across Europe by acquiring three Italian practices.

New Era believes joining VetPartners will enable the hospital to continue to improve its facilities and equipment as further investment will be available.

Partners John Hamilton, Peter Haworth, Ian Cox, Amanda Smith and Nick Thomas plan to remain at the practice following the acquisition.

Mr Hamilton said: “We have made this move to allow us to continue to provide the same level of service that we always have but to enable us to be access the resources of a larger group. While this support will allow us to grow and develop, we would like to stress that the daily care of our clients and patients will still be our primary concern and focus.

“The current partners will still be running the practice, clients will still be seeing the same vets and nurses and it will still be the same familiar voices at the end of the phone. Nothing will change in the day-to-day running of New Era, Archway and Leodis.

“As the only veterinary hospital in the Channel Islands, it is important for us to be able to continue to improve our facilities and equipment. Having the resources of VetPartners behind us will greatly facilitate this.

“This agreement gives us the opportunity to invest further in the practice in the future to expand the services we can offer and to be able to access top quality further education for all our team members.”

VetPartners CEO Jo Malone, pictured, said: “We are delighted to welcome New Era to the VetPartners family of practices.

“We have some of the best veterinary businesses across small animal, equine, mixed and farm, and the next 12 months will see further growth in each of our species groups, both in the UK and Europe.”

New Era’s main veterinary hospital is in St Saviour and it also has Leodis Veterinary Surgery in St Brelade and Archway Veterinary Centre in St Helier.

The practice employs 16 full-time and five part-time vets, 18 qualified RVNs, 10 reception team members and 13 management and admin team members.

VetPartners’s expansion across Europe gathered pace last month with the acquisition of three small animal practices in Ferrara, Florence and Parma in the north of Italy. The acquisitions marked VetPartners’ first venture into Europe and they are set for further expansion in Italy as three more practices will join them by the end of the year, to create a platform of businesses in the country.

To support its growth, VetPartners last year secured the support of leading international investment company, BC Partners, which has Euros 17 billion of assets under management in private equity and credit across the globe.
